Area counties see increase in coronavirus cases last week


Area counties saw increases in COVID-19 cases last week.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services’ virus dashboard, Swisher County has 104 (increase of seven) total cases, Floyd County 106 (increase of two), Lamb County 333 (increase of 13) and Castro County 251 (increase of eight) as of Thursday afternoon.

Of those cases, Swisher had 10 active cases, Floyd seven, Lamb 39 and Castro 17 as of the most recent posted numbers.

The City of Lubbock has reported nearly 1,000 new cases of the coronavirus over the last week.

As of Thursday afternoon, Lubbock has 11,011 total cases of the virus, up from 10,122 that were reported last week. Of the total cases, 2,388 remain active, which is an increase of 164.

Lubbock has also reported 8,501 total recoveries and 122 deaths.

The Amarillo Public Health Department’s latest virus numbers show 1,005 active cases between Potter and Randall County. This is an increase of nearly 200 active cases from the same point last week.

Potter County has reported 63 deaths and Randall County 40. A total of 7,539 cases have been reported between the two counties.
