How many people can claim their orthodontist got them into a “Star Wars” movie?
There are a few at Central Minnesota Orthodontics who can raise their hands. Central Minnesota Orthodontics, which has locations in Monticello, Princeton, Sartell and Sauk Center, was voted 2020 Best Dentist in the SC Times/LOCALiQ Best of Central Minnesota Readers Survey.
The Times asked Central Minnesota Orthodontics’ Drs. Rebecca Hanson and Kyle Knudsen about the work they do shaping smiles — and bringing smiles to patients’ faces.
TIMES: What’s one thing about Central Minnesota Orthodontics most people don’t know?
KNUDSEN: Both of our orthodontists are certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, the highest level of achievement in our profession! To become board certified, an orthodontist must undergo a rigorous examination of his or her knowledge and skill. Only about a third of all orthodontists are board certified, and we’re proud to be the only board certified orthodontists in the St. Cloud area!
What’s exciting about working with teeth?
KNUDSEN: As orthodontists, we transform smiles. It’s exciting seeing remarkable changes in our patients’ smiles as they go through treatment. Even more rewarding, though, is witnessing the lasting impact a beautiful smile has on one’s confidence and self-esteem.
How do you make sure a trip to the orthodontist is as enjoyable as possible?
HANSON: One of our core values is “to provide outstanding orthodontic experiences every day, one patient at a time.” We see every appointment as an opportunity to get to know our patients on a personal level, and we also focus on taking time to individualize each person’s care. We have lots of fun, too! Whenever someone finishes treatment, we celebrate with a loudspeaker, cheers and cowbells. We also have contests, a rewards program and patient appreciation parties. (Last December, we rented out a movie theater for the premiere of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker!”) We aim to live up to our motto: fun atmosphere, serious results!
What’s a sign of a good orthodontist?
HANSON: Orthodontics is about so much more than just straight teeth! It is a profession that incorporates science, engineering, communication and artistry. A good orthodontist can straighten teeth and correct bad bites, but it takes true commitment to be a great orthodontist. A great orthodontist will have exceptional people skills, have the patience to listen to the specific needs and goals of each patient, be highly reviewed by current and past patients, be both detail-oriented and artistic, and have the motivation and passion to take on challenges throughout their career, such as becoming board certified.
